The Cricket World Cup is the most significant cup in the ODI.
The 1st one was arranged in Britain in 1975; The Lady's World Cup was held in 1973 and is still held each four years. The Finals of this cup are played along with all 10 tests and ODI competitors together with other states which qualify for the Cup. Out of all of the groups Australia has been the most successful, winning four titles. First world cup was played in 1975, West Indies won this one. The second one was no different with the team West Indies winning it in 1979. After the 1st 2 occasions, Asians took the lead. 1983 cup belongs to India. Australia won their maiden cup in 1987. Pakistan was Extraordinary under the captaincy of Imran Khan, one of the finest cricket captains the world has ever seen, and won the 1992 cup. In 1996, the cup still stayed in the East, and Srilanka appeared as winners. Australia has been controlling the cricket world for the last ten years, and has bagged the cup in 1999, 2003 and 2007.
In 2007 the format of cricket modified permitting sixteen groups to challenge; these groups are split into four groups, each group playing each other in a round robin format. Points are then earned for wins and also for ties; the top two winners of this then advance into a superb eight round, the points are won the same way, each team carrying their points from prior rounds. The final top 4 groups advance on to the semi finals, where the winners of the semi finals move on to the final. The ICC prize which is presented to the winner of the cup was made in 1999 and was the 1st permanent prize awarded. This prize made from silver and gold features a Golden Globe which is supported by three silver columns, which represent the three facets of cricket, for example batting, bowling and fielding where the world stands for a cricket ball. |
