Football Rules

Football RulesThe game of Rugby, has had its rules modified and developed so often thru out the years that it now is extremely dissimilar to what it began as but if you do make a decision to come out and ever watch a game of Rugby you'll be wondering what the hey is going on...so here are the fundamentals of Rugby.
Rugby is a game played in two, forty minute halves, with a ten minute halftime break. Each team has fifteen players and is authorized seven substitutes. The positions are like this:

* 2 Props

* Hooker

* 2 Lockers

* 2 Flankers

* 8th Man

* Scrum-half

* Fly-half

* 2 Side Wings

* 2 Centers

* Fullback

The field that rugby is played on is named the Pitch. It's a grassy field seventy meters wide by one hundred meters long and separated equally into two equal halves by a white line.

Scoring is done in one of five ways.

* Try

When a player touches the ball to the ground in the opponent’s in-goal area his team is awarded five points.

* Penalty Try

A player attempts a penalty when a player would have scored a Try but was stopped by an opponent’s penalty. This is worth five points.
* Conversion Goal
Conversion goal is tried after a team scores a Try, a conversion goal is worth 2 points.
* Penalty
When a penalty is named the team who the penalty was called on gets to try for a penalty kick. If the kick is created that team gets three points.
* Dropped Goal
A dropped goal is when a player runs the ball back following a drop kick in the games general play.
General Game Play
Exactly like in Yank Soccer rugby begins with start which is known as a drop kick.
Unlike Yankee soccer their where no downs, no ten yards to get, the game is constant. When the Ball hits the ground the play does not stop it is fair game. Passing is authorized but it must either be done laterally or backwards, forward passing is not permitted. However any player may kick the ball at any point and once the ball has been kicked it is up for grabs from either side. Players regularly use this technique to get the ball down field to team friends. Players could also run the ball till one of two things occurs either they're tackled or they step forbidden.
When a player steps forbidden it is brought into play by a technique called "line out", both groups line up one meter from one another in parallel lines and a player from the side that did not put the ball out of play throws it in a straight line between the 2 groups. When a player is tackled the other technique of bringing the ball into play is called "scrum", this is done by each team forming a tunnel and the ball is placed between them, each side must battle for the ball against the other teams line till a player is able to push the ball backwards with his feet to his squad behind him in the "tunnel". If you have been thinking this sounds a lot like Yankee soccer, well it is, it was actually the forerunner to the North American Football's "line of scrimmage". And that’s it, the fundamentals of rugby, so go out there and play!!
