Initial Pro Football days faced many issues including shortage of rules, keeping the players in order and pro recognition. But with the formation of APFA all of the problems started to wade away. Essentially there were eleven franchises were presented at the 1st APFA meeting. They were Massillon Tigers, Decatur Staleys, Hammond Pros, Akron Pros, Cleveland Indians, Dayton Triangles, Canton Bulldogs, Chicago Cardinals, Muncie Flyers, Rock Island, Independents Rochester, Jeffersons. On Sep twenty-six, 1920, the 1st game featuring a team from the APFA was played at Douglas Park in Rock Island, Illinois. The Independents were winning as they rolled to a 48-0 win over the St. Paul Ideals. One week later, 2 league groups fought one-on-one for the fist time. The Dayton Triangles beat Columbus Panhandles, 14-0 in Triangle Park. The Akron Pros, were crowned the league's first champ, with an 8-0-3 regular season record. Only a couple of the original franchises of APFA still exist today. Decatur Staleys moved to Chicago and their franchise name was modified to the existing Chicago Bears. |
NFL was started in Canton,ohio on Sep seventeen, 1920 by a grouping of enterprising men. At first NFL was known as American Professional Football Association ( AFPA ). American Professional Football Association later got rechristened as National Football League ( NFL ) in 1922 and became America's favourite sport. Jim Thorpe who was a pro Football player was the 1st president of NFL and helped add credibility and pouplarity for the game. Essentially Pro Football commenced in 1892 at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania when previous Yale star William "Pudge" Heffelfinger was paid an outstanding sum of $500 to play in a single game for the Allegheny Athletic organisation on Nov twelve 1892. Then Pro Football was played often in the tiny towns of Pennsylvania and was generally a Pennsylvanian sport before it started becoming preferred in the eastern and Midwestern states like Ohio.
