The history of hockey has similarities to that of golfing as it essentially is rooted from any game that concerned a stick and a ball or rock which have all been played for millenia.
Rather rough and crude forms of these games have been taking place for millenia thru Europe, Egypt and South America that have formed hockey history. Hockey started to form more clear roots through England in the sixteen and 17 hundreds. These were untrustworthy games that regularly mixed the complete town vs another village and groups could regularly have up to 100 players and the players regularly played thru major wounds and endured a few days of these games. The game that we are way more acquainted with today started to form at Eton College in Britain when they commenced to plan rules around 1860. Then the 1st Hockey Assoc. In the history of hockey was formed in 1875 which explained more rules. Further expansion of the game was spawning in Northern America as new settlers came to the continent.
Montreal was credited with the 1st arranged game in the history of hockey that was played in 1875 by college kids. The scholars then formed more associations and leagues and made new rules at the same time. The game kept growing in appreciation and became so preferred that Montreal offered the 1st World Championship of Ice Hockey in 1883. Western european hockey continued to expand at the varsity level while a number of varsities formed aggressive contentions. Some dramatic changes were applied that helped progress the game to a field of eleven players while hockey apparatus started to develop too. The employment of safety appliances to incorporate pads, helmets, mouth pieces and protecting eye shields have seriously improved from the beginning of hockey history. It wasn't odd to not even wear head gear till the last few decades.
The world appeal of hockey grew enormously due to the Olympics. It was first played at the Games in 1924 and only permitted male groups. Canada was a good bet to win the gold gong as they won the 1st 6 out of 7 gold’s. From the mid 50s to the eighties the Soviet Union controlled. Though the US won its first gold gong in hockey history in1960 it was actually the 1980 Miracle on Ice where our varsity newbie team went on to beat the heavily favored Russians that spurred an expansion in Americas taste for hockey. The NHL as we all know it today was formed in 1917 and is composed of thirty groups twenty-four of which are from America and the remainder in Canada. The majority of the players come from Canada, Europe and America. There's also an World organization called the World Hockey Federation which was formed in 1908 and continues today by hosting some of the biggest global ice hockey contests. These 2 organizations have helped form and govern hockey as we all know it today. The game has grown a lot from balls and twigs to a major international activity that produces billions in money every year and has some of the most superb athletes in the world, so goes the history of hockey.
